Letter by Concerned Economists Regarding “Contracting for Sex in the Pacific War” in the International Review of Law and Economics http://chwe.net/irle/letter/
Statement by Al Roth and Paul Milgrom Department of Economics Stanford University

The two of us have been thinking and talking about the article by Professor Ramseyer, which is distressing in so many ways. (We can’t help being reminded of Holocaust denial.) The soundness of an historical account should be judged based on a review of the evidence, which can never be overruled by some simple game theory model. The appeal Professor Ramseyer makes to game theory provides no support for his claims.
Rational Emotions: Israeli Economist Explains Why This Is Not an Oxymoron In his new book, Eyal Winter claims love, anger and sadness have a rational dimension that helps us achieve our objectives. https://www.haaretz.com/.premium-israeli-economist-goes-through-the-emotions-1.5300042 Winter has often told his father’s story to friends and acquaintances. His father left Germany at the age of 13 after the Nazis rose to power, and immigrated with his brother to Palestine, without their wealthy parents, who stayed behind for fear of losing the family property. “That never made me particularly emotional,” the professor says now, “but in front of the Al Jazeera cameras I couldn’t stop my tears. It was a genuine reaction. Even after they left my office it took me an hour to recover.”
“My father, who died in 2007, was a Holocaust survivor, a victim of Nazism, who lost almost his entire family in Auschwitz,” he says.

2021/04/10(土) 20:43:35.09ID:qBWUfph7 Rape of Nanking, JP commentary? https://www.reddit.com/r/JordanPeterson/comments/6fau39/rape_of_nanking_jp_commentary/ A List of Influential Books Everyone Should Read - Jordan Peterson https://www.jordanbpeterson.com/books/book-list/ 9. Canadian Jewish Heritage Month Act Peter Kent Thornhill, ON https://openparliament.ca/debates/2018/2/13/peter-kent-1/ Mr Speaker, it is an honour and a pleasure to rise today to speak in support of Bill S-232, the Canadian Jewish heritage month act.
The proposed legislation received unanimous support in the other place, and I hope that this House will follow suit. The preamble of Bill S-232 remarks that Canada is home to the fourth-largest Jewish population in the world of approximately 400,000 men, women, and children.
All of that said, despite the diverse and dynamic community of Jewish communities, the scourge of the original hate crime, anti-Semitism, remains. We were reminded in the most recent audits of anti-Semitism by B'nai Brith and Statistics Canada that documented the highest levels of nationwide anti-Semitism on record. Michael Mostyn, the chief executive of B'nai Brithth Canada, said recently, “Canadians from coast to coast have seen the swastikas, heard the anti-Jewish hate speech, and now have access to the statistics”.
An Open Letter Regarding the “Peace Statue” in Berlin Mitte District from Miroslav Marinov, Ph.D. http://nadesiko-action.org/?p=15469 Those “recreation and amusement” centers expanded quickly in Tokyo, reaching the number of 33. “Not surprisingly, they proved popular among US. servicemen. They were, among other things, inexpensive. The price for a short visit with an R.A.A. prostitute was 15 yen, or one dollar, about the same as half a pack of cigarettes on the Japanese market.”[47]
These establishments were credited for the reduction of rapes conducted by American and other Western servicemen. “According to one calculation, the number of rapes and assaults on Japanese women amounted to around 40 daily, while the R.A.A. was in operation, and then rose to an average of 330 a day” after the association was closed by the GHQ.[48]
The Name Game - Jewish Journal https://jewishjournal.com/culture/singles/6191/ That was before we understood that names could be obviously Jewish, that any name containing “gold,” “silver,” “green,” “fish,” “blatt,” “baum,” “stein,” “feld” or “witz” was usually a dead giveaway. That was before we knew that Shapiro was Shapiro and Kaplan was Kaplan. Kaplan? C’mon. This is still a family joke and if she’s distracted, you can sometimes get her to do it to this day.
The Comfort Women and Japan’s War on Truth By Mindy Kotler https://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/15/opinion/comfort-women-and-japans-war-on-truth.html Unrequited Responsibility: Japan, Iran and Israel Mindy Kotler https://apjjf.org/-Mindy-Kotler/1696/article.html In the first article, Mindy Kotler, Director of Asia Policy Point, examines critically Japan's reluctance to join the US-led bandwagon on Iran, highlighting the failure to criticize the Iranian president's statements on Israel and the holocaust, and noting Japan's heavy dependence on Iranian oil.
Japan has not been alone in distancing itself from US policy toward Iran. Yet, Tokyo has reacted differently than China and the EU to the increasingly outspoken Iranian President Ahmadinejad's insistence on establishing his country's right to nuclear power. In December, the Iranian leader called for Israel to be moved to Europe and denied that the Holocaust had happened.

Earlier this month at the request of the editor of the International Review of Law and Economics, we began to write a critical response to the article “Contracting for Sex in the Pacific War,” by Professor J. Mark Ramseyer, at that point released online by the journal with plans for formal publication in March.
It is not our responsibility to conduct a full examination of the integrity of a paper published by a journal with which we have no connection. That is the job of the journal and its publisher, ordinarily through the peer review process but in extraordinary cases after the fact. This is such a case. We have written to the journal requesting they suspend publication of this piece, conduct its own inquiry drawing on expert opinion, and pending the result, retract the article. 2021/05/20(木) 20:59:17.79ID:xDgfkZD7>>543 Why Is Gordon a Jewish Last Name? https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/5028251/jewish/Why-Is-Gordon-a-Jewish-Last-Name.htm
Andrew Gordon for English text Asahi Shinsho for Japanese Edition October 2007 https://adgordon.net/files/agordon/files/matsuzaka_major_revolution_pdf.pdf You don’t have to be a professional historian to wonder if this story checks out in every detail, but it felt true in the family re-telling. It played its part in confirming to grandchildren of immigrants that they were Americans who shared heroes with neighbors and strangers. My great-grandfather, Ellis, who took his grandchildren on this fishing excursion, was born to a Jewish family in Russia. He came to the United States in 1885, aged 13. He followed a charmed path of successful assimilation.
The May/June edition of American Jewish Life Magazine published an essay titled “Why Every American Jew Should Love the Boston Red Sox and Hate the New York Yankees.” The gist of this account was that the Red Sox have fielded a larger number of Jewish players, by far, than the Yankees: “the Yankees have had the luxury for decades of sitting in the heart of America’s largest Jewish population…In spite of this, there have been a relatively small number of Jewish players in pinstripes.” 0545名無しさん@お腹いっぱい。2021/05/20(木) 20:59:59.32ID:xDgfkZD7>>544 The Red Sox, by contrast, on August 8, 2005, put 3 Jewish players on the field at once, reportedly the first time in MLB history that a single team has done this (there was a game in the 1940s with four Jewish players, but two on each team). Also, the Red Sox are the only team to have had four Jewish players on their 25 man roster at one time (also in 2005). This story was written with irony, in places quite hilarious, as if to say?“I know this is not the most important thing about baseball or Judaism.” But behind the humor, the author does not hide a genuine admiration for the Jewish Red Sox, who “make Jews proud to be Americans, to be budding young ballplayers, to be Jewish.”
John Carpenter and Stephen Greyser (a founder of the field “sports business” at the Harvard Business School) offered helpful advice on the project along the way, as did longtime friend Takano Naoto, my neighbor and Boston Globe editor Jim Concannon, and colleagues at Harvard: Alison Frank, Ted Gilman, Peter Kelley, Mark Kishlansky, Susan Pharr and her husband Robert Mitchell. My daughter Megumi read the very first drafts of the first chapters and offered much encouragement and editorial advice.
Mid-way through the summer, my older daughter was married to a wonderful young man on a glorious day. Fortunately, it was a Saturday evening when Matsuzaka was not pitching, so I was spared a difficult choice of which to attend. I am indeed grateful to Jennifer, her husband Luke, and my wife Yoshie for putting up with my occasional distraction from wedding plans over the course of the season. 2021/05/20(木) 21:00:31.45ID:xDgfkZD7>>545 Jennifer Gordon, Luke Stein https://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/29/fashion/weddings/29gordon.html
