【ELLE誌】MEET GIRL GROUP XG: APPLE MUSIC’S GLOBAL UP NEXT ARTIST
AUGUST 28, 2023

Chances are you’ve heard of XG even if you don’t know them. Start with their tape “Galz Xypher”, with Cocona’s rap sampled over Surround Sound by J.I.D (feat. 21 Savage and Baby Tate) specifically that went viral. To the point where even rapper, singer, and dancer Jackson Wang commented that he thinks they are the future. Saying, “Vocally and rap and taste and character, they’re the top. They got it already, they’re equipped, they’re ready for battle.”

Members Jurin, Chisa, Harvey, Hinata, Juria, Maya, and Cocona may have debuted in March 2022, but in a short amount of time the seven member hip hop and R&B-inspired girl group has already performed at the Heads in the Clouds festival in Los Angeles, collaborated with Ciara and Jackson Wang, and became the first female Japanese artists to chart in the US radio Top 40.

Plus, on top of all that, XG was recently announced as Apple Music’s global Up Next Artist — an artist initiative that aims to discover, introduce, and nurture emerging talent. This marks the first time a Japanese group has been chosen for the global Up Next program and they join a roster of Grammy-nominated and critically lauded talents like Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, Daniel Caesar, Khalid, and 6LACK.
