The Republican National Committee had high hopes that Donald J. Trump wo uld deliver a compassionate and measured speech about immigration on Wed nesday, and prepared to lavish praise on the candidate on the party’s T witter account.
So when Mr. Trump instead offered a fiery denunciation of migrant crimin als and suggested deporting Hillary Clinton, Reince Priebus, the party c hairman, signaled that aides should scrap the plan, and the committee ma de no statement at all.
The evening tore a painful new wound in Mr. Trump’s relationship with t he Republican National Committee, imperiling his most important remainin g political alliance.
..She compared him to Hitler, likened his campaign to a “racist” versi on of “Fun with Dick and Jane” and even said he evoked the murderous c hild star in “The Bad Seed.”
“I just think he’s” an idiot, Cher said of Donald J. Trump, adding a decidedly unprintable modifier.
The crowd on Sunday in Provincetown, Mass., one of the country’s gay ca pitals, roared its approval at Cher’s succinct and salty assessment. Bu t the famed singer and actress was not just riffing between songs at a c oncert: She was introducing Hillary Clinton at a fund-raiser for her pre sidential campaign.
Cher did more than just blister Mr. Trump. She also offered a blunt appr aisal of Mrs. Clinton’s strengths and weaknesses. “This chick is just tougher than Chinese algebra,” Cher said of the Democratic nominee.
Prompting a mix of nervous laughter and applause, she added, “She is sh y, and she’s not the greatest speaker in the world.”
“The political cost [of the visit] was extremely high for Peña Nieto, and he was obliged to find someone to blame,” said Alberto Arnaut, a political science professor at the College of Mexico, explaining the minister’s departure.
